Teen arrested in connection with deadly Madison shooting

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A teen was arrested Tuesday afternoon in connection with a deadly shooting in Madison.

Metro police said 19-year-old Jaylin Sanford was arrested for the shooting that left 19-year-old Kenneth Buford Jr. dead in a field.

The shooting happened just after 3 p.m. Monday, May 13 in a field off North Gallatin Pike and McKinley Street.

According to an arrest report, surveillance video showed Sanford run toward Buford and fire several shots toward him.

Police said Buford’s friend was also present during the incident, but did not sustain any injuries and was able to flee the scene.

After Buford was shot, video reportedly showed him fall to the ground. Sanford is then seen grabbing items from the ground nearby before heading toward McKinley Street, officials said.

Based on their investigation, authorities believe Buford and Sanford knew each other.

Buford was taken to TriStar Skyline Medical Center where he died.

Sanford is believed to have used an automatic pistol during the shooting, according to investigators.

He was arrested outside of an apartment in West Nashville and has been charged with criminal homicide and attempted criminal homicide.

According to booking records, Sanford remains jailed on a $600,000 bond.
