Teen arrested for bringing loaded rifle to Julius L. Chambers High School in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A 19-year-old has been arrested for bringing a loaded rifle onto school property in northeast Charlotte, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.

Around 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Julius L. Chambers High School and two other nearby CMS schools went into lockdown after receiving an unsubstantiated threat, police explained.

CMPD officers responded and searched the property. Responding officers located a vehicle on campus with a 19-year-old driver who was in possession of a loaded rifle.

CMPD said discovering the armed teen was “unrelated to the original call for service and lockdown at the area schools.”

The 19-year-old was taken into custody and charged with the following:

  • Possession of a firearm on educational property

  • Possession of a firearm with an obliterated/altered serial number

“CMPD strongly urges parents and caretakers – do not bring weapons on campus or have them in your vehicle when you are picking up your child or dependent,” authorities said.

The investigation into this case remains active and ongoing.
