TDOT looking for feedback through choice lanes survey

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Before toll lanes come to I-24, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) wants your help.

A state board voted last month to bring Tennessee’s first toll lanes to I-24 between Nashville and Murfreesboro, one of the state’s most traveled sections of interstate.

Transportation officials are now in the planning, design, and environmental stage of the project, which includes a survey you can take to help TDOT understand travel patterns.

“What we want to know is how often people are traveling on this corridor, where are they traveling to and from, what kind of vehicles they’re using, what time of day, so really what those habits and patterns are,” said Rebekah Hammonds, the community relations officer for TDOT.

In the last few weeks, the survey was mailed to more than 60,000 people who live along and near that corridor, but those who travel that area frequently, even for work, can fill out the survey online right now.

Keep in mind you have less than two weeks to complete it before the April 7 deadline.

“Think about the impact that a project of this size will have on you if you travel that corridor; it’s a large impact and what we want to do is have the best and most information we can and make better decisions so that project is successful,” said Hammonds.

Once the survey wraps up, that information and data will help with a report on traffic and possible revenue from the toll lane. A TDOT spokesperson said the department’s relationship with people in the community is top of mind.

“What’s so important is to have that engagement with those folks because they’re going to be part of this, and we want to make sure that we are communicating with them early and often throughout this whole process,” said Hammonds.
