A Taste of Brighton will return 'bigger and better' in 2024

BRIGHTON — Organizers say A Taste of Brighton will finally return bigger and better than ever this year.

First there was the COVID-19 pandemic. Then, after a year of regrouping, many downtown events were postponed or relocated during the city's massive revamp of the downtown streetscape.

But officials have approved 20 civic events to be held downtown this year, and A Taste of Brighton is one of them.

The event, which has drawn up to 40,000 people in years past, has only been held once since 2020. A Taste of Brighton will run 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday, July 12, and 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday, July 13.

Brighton business owners on the festival's committee say this year's event will feature more live music then ever, plus new attractions. It will also be a chance to test out the revamped streetscape with wider sidewalks.

"The house is all clean and ready for the party," Keith Karp, owner of candy store Oh My Lolli, said.

Nick Hegle of The Pound Bar and Grill and Steve Anderson of Label Kitchen and Bar have been booking acts.

"There's one headliner on Friday with, I believe, two acoustic acts and eight acoustic acts on Saturday with three main stages," Hagel said.

Headliners include Local Heroes on Friday and Billy Gunther and the Midwest Riders on Saturday.

New entertainment offerings include a mobile video game trailer, trivia and entertainment for children near the Imagination Station.

Festival organizers are also working on shuttles from Brighton High School and ways to alleviate a parking crunch downtown. They'll have new wayfinding signs and other methods of directing people to food and offerings, in order to manage crowd flow.
