Tarek El Moussa Talks About Going into the Woods With a Gun, Future of ‘Flip or Flop’

While his ex-wife Christina was appearing on Good Morning America, Tarek El Moussa appeared on Today to talk about various personal issues about him in the news. After a seemingly happy marriage and professional relationship that fans saw them in on their popular HGTV show, Flip or Flop, Tarek and Christina El Moussa made headlines when they announced their separation in December.

Despite the turbulent time, they have not stopped filming Season 7. “There’s going to be challenges, right?” El Moussa told anchors Al Roker and Sheinelle Jones. “But through this entire process, me and Christina are professional. We know we have a job to do, and we love what we do and we want to deliver a good product to our fans. So, through this process, I feel like we’ve done a really good job.”

Fans were aware that El Moussa had been diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2013, but on Today he revealed he had been diagnosed with another cancer. “Literally a month after I found out I had thyroid cancer, I was at the hospital and they say, ‘I hate to tell you — you have testicular cancer,’” he recalled. “So, the second I heard I had testicular cancer, knowing I already had thyroid cancer, I thought I was going to die. I thought I was rotting inside.”

And, of course, that wasn’t the only news item involving El Moussa. In May police responded to a 911 call from his then-wife saying that he had taken a gun and ran out of the house. He explained the deal with that. “I live in Yorba Linda, California, [near] Chino Hills State Park,” he said. “We have big wildlife. We have mountain lions, bobcats. There’s major wildlife back there. I have a CCW, which is a California concealed carry, which means I’m legally able to carry a firearm. [I] threw a firearm in my backpack, a couple bottles of water, went on a hike. And from there, the rest is history.”

At the interview’s end, El Moussa seemed interested in moving on from the recent press coverage. “There’s so much weird gossip and fake news out there, I ignore as much as I can. And I’m really just focusing on my kids — No. 1 — myself, and my future,” he said. “And I’m really excited about my future. I’m moving forward on my own.”
