Tannery Knobs’ ‘Raise the Flag’ flagpole progressing ahead of schedule
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – The Tannery Knobs’ Raise the Flag project is progressing ahead of schedule, and the 30′ x 50′ American flag is closer to being raised.
The 100-foot-tall pole will act as the service flag pole and honor all who contribute to Johnson City and its community. It will sit atop Tannery Knobs and be visible from notable places in the area, such as the Tweetise Trail or from the TVA Credit Union Ballpark at a Doughboys game.
News Channel 11 visited Tannery Knobs on Wednesday to check on the progress of the flagpole. Crews were diligently digging and preparing for the next step in the project. They hope to install a cage for the base on Thursday and then pour concrete.

American Legion Post 24 Commander Ed Depolo said the flagpole is a symbol of pride for all in the area.
“I think it will also be a point of pride for the whole Tri-Cities to say ‘hey, you come to the Tri-Cities, we’re proud of being Americans,'” he said. “We’re proud of America. Whatever faults we might have, we’re an awful darn great nation.”
Groundbreaking held for Tannery Knobs ‘Raise the Flag’ project
The project is a collaborative effort between the American Legion, the City of Johnson City, local veterans and others in the community.
A dedication of the flag pole will take place on June 4 in conjunction with the Johnson City Doughboy’s season opener game.
