Tampa police investigating fatal hit-and-run moped crash on Hillsborough Avenue

Tampa police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a person on a moped early Friday.

The crash between the moped and another vehicle happened about 4 a.m. on East Hillsborough Avenue near 50th Street, according to a news release from the Tampa Police Department. The driver of the other vehicle drove away after the crash,

The moped driver was found with critical injuries and later died, police said. Police have not released the person’s name.

Police have not released any information about the other vehicle or driver or how the crash happened.

The eastbound and westbound lanes of East Hillsborough Avenue between North 47th and North 50th streets were closed Friday morning while police investigate the incident.
