Tallahassee tornado: Home of former FSU softball player destroyed in storms

The home of a former Florida State softball player and a current FSU player was damaged in Friday's powerful storms.

Josie Muffley, who played shortstop for the Seminoles from 2020-2023, shared photos on Instagram of her house that was destroyed by a fallen tree. According to the ACC Network broadcast of FSU's game against Georgia Tech in the ACC softball tournament, Muffley lives at the house with Autumn Belviy, a senior outfielder on the team.

"Well blessed in an understatement," Muffley wrote on Instagram. "Dogs and I are okay we took cover in my closet. House is gone."

Powerful storms ripped through Tallahassee on Friday morning, bringing a possible tornado. One woman died, and a reported 80,000 in the area were left without power.

Dick Howser Stadium, the home of the FSU baseball team, was damaged by Friday's storms, as well, with the right-field fence and foul pole badly bent by the power of the storms.

FSU softball coach Lonni Alameda told the ACC Network that the tree ended up in Belviy's bedroom.

It's been a rough week for Muffley, whose hometown of Portage, Michigan, was hit by tornadoes on Tuesday.

"Praying for everyone in my hometown," Muffley wrote in a post on the social website formerly known as Twitter. "Blessed my parents are okay."

Muffley was on the FSU teams that made the Women's College World Series championship game in 2021 and 2023. She also made the ACC All-Tournament Team in 2023.

Belviy has appeared in 48 games for the Seminoles this season, starting four games and scoring 17 runs.
