This Solana Beach, CA, home belonging to NFL Hall of Famer Lance Alworth is on the market for $1.2 million. Alworth had bought the 1,404-square-foot home for his mother-in-law, notes listing agent Wendy Ramp.

The two-bedroom, two-bathroom home is “close to the beach” and was completely remodeled five years ago, says Ramp. It features granite counters in the kitchen and beautiful stone flooring in the master bathroom, she says.

“Probably the most important thing is it’s close to Del Mar [a thoroughbred racetrack],” says Ramp. “You can walk to the beach, walk to the racetrack.”

Alworth spent 11 seasons in professional football, from 1962 through 1972, first in the American Football League and then the National Football League after the two leagues merged. He played wide receiver with the San Diego Chargers for most of those years and remains a fan favorite in the San Diego area.

Known as Bambi during his playing days, the gridiron legend made headlines last year when he fulfilled a 100-year-old World War II veteran’s desire to meet him.

While the buyer of this house may not get the chance to meet Alworth, he or she will own a little slice of San Diego sports history.
