When we heard about swineapple, we were equal parts appalled and intrigued. "Swine" isn't usually a word thrown around when talking about delicious foods. After learning what it actually is - a whole, hollowed-out pineapple stuffed with pork (loin or ribs) and wrapped in bacon - the Delish editors were split. Some were fully on board with the crazy grilling trend, others not so much. Here's everything you need to know about it to decide for yourself.

To clarify, all of the meat involved (loin and bacon) begins raw. It cooks in and around the pineapple. Most recipes require a grill to smoke the pineapple low and slow. It takes a few hours for the stuffed meat to cook through and for the bacon to get crispy. If grilling's not your thing, you could also roast it in a 300°F-oven.

The trend was news to us, but it's already on the rise. According to Pinterest, searches for swineapple are up by more than 230 percent from last summer, with one how-to pin getting saved more than 50,000 times.

If you're looking for something different to serve at your next cookout - or if you're big on Hawaiian pizza or tacos al pastor - it's a dish worth trying.
