Sutter County deputies cracking down on fuel thefts

(FOX40.COM) — A series of fuel thefts at gas stations across Sutter County has placed the sheriff’s office in a state of elevated awareness, according to the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office.

On Tuesday, deputies believed they were witnessing a potential fuel theft at a Shell station at the intersection of Obanion Road and Highway 99, south of Yuba City.

From 11 p.m. to 2 a.m., deputies watched a group of vehicles loiter near the gas pumps, according to the sheriff’s office.

Four of the vehicles were stopped on “numerous traffic violations” and while searching the vehicles, one was found to have three completely filled fuel containers.

The sheriff’s office said that no arrests were made and that the investigation into the fuel thefts remains on going.
