Susquehanna University extending tuition deposit deadline

Apr. 25—SELINSGROVE — Susquehanna University is extending the formal deposit deadline for fall 2024 full-time, first-year admission from May 1 to May 15.

The two-week extension is due to ongoing delays by the U.S. Department of Education in implementing changes made to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Simplification Act of 2020.

In past years, the FAFSA became available to students beginning on Oct. 1 with universities receiving information and beginning to deliver financial aid offers as early as November. The release of the FAFSA to students and families this year was delayed by three months until the end of December and universities across the nation did not begin receiving the results until mid-March, almost six months later than usual.

"The results of the FAFSA are the key component for universities to create a comprehensive financial aid offer for students to ensure they make a well-informed, holistic decision regarding where they will spend the next four years of their educational journey," said Justin Rummel, vice president for enrollment at Susquehanna. "While Susquehanna has provided many of our admitted students who filed the FAFSA with a comprehensive financial aid offer, some of our admitted students are also considering schools that have not provided an offer of financial aid yet, and therefore we believe the best move to support a sound college decision for students and families is to extend the deposit deadline."
