Suspected voyeur accosted by St. Johns Town Center customers in viral video is arrested

A video that went viral in March of customers at a St. Johns Town Center store confronting and trying to detain a man they said was using his cellphone to record women in the restroom has led to an arrest.

Titus Hugh McDonell, 18, of Saint Johns was charged Wednesday with video voyeurism and remained in jail Friday in lieu of $35,000 bail, according to Jacksonville Sheriff's Office jail records.

The case got a lot of attention when one of the customers posted the video on TikTok and it quickly started making the rounds on social media.

The March 12 video from inside the Marshalls store on River Marsh Drive shows a skinny young man with long hair and glasses get confronted by a couple of women who berate him saying he’s sick and follow him as he tries to leave and is fidgeting with his cellphone.

“Nobody let this guy out," a woman says. "You cannot get out. You’re recording people going to the bathroom. You cannot leave.”

“Delete the recording," one says. "What is wrong with you. You are f------ sick!”

A male customer also stops him briefly. The suspect keeps looking down at his phone and doesn't say anything during the short clip.

On March 20, the Sheriff's Office issued his picture on a “Wanted Wednesday” post on its Facebook with “Video Voyeurism” above the photo and “Do You Know Me” below. The incident report states that two victims had used the customer restroom and observed the unknown man in the stall next to them. The next line is redacted, but he is accused of having his cellphone at his feet to video record the women.

He was described as having long brown hair and glasses, wearing a long-sleeve blue shirt with gray sweats.

The Times-Union has requested the arrest report.
