Suspect wanted, accused of attempted murder in Kenner

KENNER, La. (WGNO) — The Kenner Police Department is searching for a suspect accused of armed robbery and attempted murder in Kenner.

According to KPD leaders, at 1:30 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting that occurred in the 700 block of Coleman Place on Tuesday, April 23.

Officers said they found a 56-year-old male lying on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to a hospital and is in critical condition.

Following an investigation, detectives found that the victim’s wallet and cell phone were missing. Detectives identified 31-year-old Matthew Lathers, of Kenner, the alleged shooter.

Lathers was convicted of armed robbery in 2012 and was sentenced to 10 years.

He is now wanted for attempted second degree murder and armed robbery, according to KPD officers.
