Suspect in Mount Horeb active shooter incident dead

MOUNT HOREB, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – The suspect in an active shooter incident outside of Mount Horeb Middle School was a student in the district and is deceased, the Wisconsin Attorney General confirming earlier this evening (5/1/24). Attorney General Josh Kaul explained during a news conference that the Mount Horeb Area School District locked down after police officers responded to the report of a person with a weapon outside of the middle school. Kaul Said That Mount Horeb Police Officers used deadly force with the male suspect. Kaul had no other identifying information about the minor. No other students, staff or law enforcement were injured in the shooting.

Mount Horeb Superintendent Steve Salerno said that it would be best for students and staff to take a rest Thursday and that the school would be open for support. Salerno said they hope to have everyone return to classes on Friday, and that the decision will be made in the near future.
