Suspect had meth, marijuana, West Burlington Police allege

An Ottumwa man was in custody Tuesday after police allege he had methamphetamine and marijuana, according to a news release.

On Sunday, West Burlington Police saw a vehicle driving north in the 400 block of West Burlington Avenue with a headlight out.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 400 block of East Wheeler. During the traffic stop, K9 Maverick was deployed to conduct an open-air sniff around the vehicle. After the dog alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics, a search of the vehicle was conducted.

Officers found methamphetamine and marijuana in the vehicle, the release says.

The passenger, Kevin Ross of Ottumwa, was found to be in possession of the narcotics. Ross was placed under arrest and transported to the Des Moines County Correction Facility.

Ross is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance – third offense.
