Suspect calls 911 after allegedly stabbing man to death at Greeley laundromat

DENVER (KDVR) — A man was stabbed to death outside of a Greeley laundromat following a disturbance, according to police.

On Sunday at around 9 p.m., Greeley Police Department officers were called to a laundromat located in the 1800 block of Greeley Mall. The officers were told that a disturbance had broken out between two men and that one of them had reportedly been stabbed.

When officers arrived at the business, they found a 36-year-old man suffering from multiple severe stab wounds. Officers said they performed lifesaving measures before the man was taken to a hospital by medics.

However, Greeley police said the man was pronounced dead.

While police were investigating the scene, officers said the suspect called 911 to report what had happened. Officers said they spoke with the suspect, 40-year-old Michael Vergara, on the phone for several minutes before locating him inside a parked car in the 2200 block of 23rd Avenue.

Vergara was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Weld County Jail on charges of first-degree murder.

The victim’s identity will be released at a later time by the Weld County Coroner’s Office.
