Help support Iron Mountain’s young entrepreneurs on ‘Lemonade Day’
IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WJMN) – On Saturday, May 18, young entrepreneurs in Iron Mountain will have lemonade stands across the city.
It’s part of a free, community-wide event called Lemonade Day. Lemonade Day is a strategic lesson-based program that introduces youth to entrepreneurship by teaching them how to start, own and operate their own lemonade stand.
After the youth have completed the Lemonade Day curriculum with a mentor or parent, they are prepared for the real-world experience of owning a business. This is the second year the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce has held the event.
“Right now, we need people to come out and support these budding entrepreneurs,” said Suzanne Larson, the executive director of Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce. “They’ve spent the last several months learning how to build their business, how to market their business. And we’re at the stage now where we need people to put this date on the calendar and come out and support these kids. So, there’s a lot going on in our city on that day. But I’m urging people on your way to call bingo or on your way to the rummage sales, maybe stop at a stand and grab a glass of lemonade. You just don’t know what it’s going to do to that child.”
A portion of the proceeds that the kids make from their lemonade stand goes towards a non-profit of their choice.
