ST. LOUIS – Two icons of the fashion industry paid a visit to St. Louis on Monday, as a St. Louis native was honored with a special dedication ceremony, followed by a special guest speaker’s appearance at Washington University.

Crowds gathered for the big unveiling of Karlie Kloss Way in downtown St. Louis at Washington Avenue and 15th Street.

“I am so beyond honored and in disbelief about this moment today,” Karlie Kloss said. “I can’t believe that Karlie Kloss Way is real. St. Louis is a huge part of who I am. My entire family lives here and has for so many generations so this is such a special honor and really cool (full) circle moment.”

Before her modeling career took her across the globe, Kloss grew up in the St. Louis area.

“Countless memories in this neighborhood and in this beloved city. Even just on this street. My sisters and I would visit my grandparents’ small family business just around the corner,” Kloss said. “Above all, this city has shown me that a girl from St. Louis can dream, achieve, and work to make a difference in the world.”

Across town, fashion icon Michael Kors filled Washington University’s Graham Chapel with a a lecture about his start in the industry at 19.

“I always wanted to do this. So, it makes it really a wonderful dream come true that you get to know what you want to do, and then you get to do it, and you get to succeed beyond your wildest dreams,” he said.

Kors also spoke about the growth of his brand.

“It is exciting to see now we’re on our third generation of clients and I think generation four is going to come soon, and it is always exciting to really stay ahead of the curve,” he said. “Because I think fashion is something that reflects the times that we live in.”
