Superior mayor to deliver State of the City address

May 23—SUPERIOR — Mayor Jim Paine announced plans to present his annual State of the City address on Thursday, May 30.

The speech will be held at 7 p.m. at the Douglas County Historical Society, 1101 John Ave.

"It's going to be a more abbreviated affair because I want to do something a little bit different and schedule a committee of the whole meeting that same day," Paine said.

Theatre Projects, which is conducting a feasibility study to determine the best way to restore the Princess Theater, will be in town that day, and councilors will have the opportunity to set direction for the next phase of the study during that meeting, which will run from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

"We will not be casting any votes or making any decisions," Paine said.

Following the meeting, Paine said he will give a shorter speech than usual.

"I think there are some pretty exciting things for us to highlight, give a bit of an agenda for the next year, but I mostly want to continue the tradition of naming a Citizen of the Year," Paine said. "I really enjoy that, and I think I've got someone pretty great to recognize this year. If you want to learn who that is, the State of the City is at 7."
