This funding, in the form of a $2,000 grant awarded on May 1, allows Family Promise to provide families who move into the shelter program with new bedding, sheets, and mattress covers, which they can take with them upon graduating from the 6-month program, according to a news release. Family Promise of Lubbock exists to empower homeless families with children to achieve long-term independence by providing temporary shelter, support, and growth opportunities. Family Promise of Lubbockhas faithfully served the Lubbock community for 25 years and is now looking forward to the next 25 years.In 2023, Family Promise of Lubbock received 340 applications for the shelter program. Family homelessness isoften overlooked and remains a huge need in the Lubbock community. In March 2024 there were 941 studentsidentified as homeless within the Lubbock Independent School District.“It might take a village to raise children in one family, but it takes a whole city to rise up and serve families who arevulnerable and need our support,” said Monica Martin, interim executive director of Family Promise of Lubbock.“Think about how many people you have supporting your family. Oftentimes, the families we serve don’t havemany healthy connections that can bridge them toward stability.
