Will sunshine peek through for Memorial Day in the South Sound? Here’s what forecasts say

The weekend is off to a damp start in the South Sound with temperatures that might make you forget summer is just around the corner. But forecasts say warmer weather could make a triumphant return for Memorial Day.

There will still be clouds in the sky Monday while you set up the barbecue, according to the National Weather Service, but the holiday is expected to stay dry with the high temp near 68 degrees.

Saturday and Sunday in the South Sound is a different story. Rain showers are staying in the forecast thanks to an upper-level trough moving through the area, according to NWS, with a higher chance of precipitation in the morning.

And plenty of cloud cover is keeping temperatures cool with highs near 58 degrees on Saturday and Sunday. Nighttime low temperatures are predicted to be in the high 40s.

Scattered showers are expected before 11 a.m. Saturday, but rain is still a possibility after 1 p.m. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. More rain is predicted to fall overnight.

There’s a greater chance of rain Sunday, NWS forecasts say. It should taper off Sunday evening and into Memorial Day as an upper level ridge begins to build east of the area.
