Sunny Easter weekend before storm chances return

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — High pressure at the surface has led to pleasant conditions across the Tennessee Valley through the majority of the week!

With plenty of dry air in place, sunshine and mild temperatures are forecast to continue into Easter weekend!

The upper-level trough, a dip in the jet stream, that had led to the cool air over the region will lift Northeast. This will be replaced by a ridge that builds into the region from the southwest.

The ridge in the jet stream will support a change in our current weather pattern! Winds will shift out of the southwest Friday filtering warmer air into the area. Winds will be a bit breezy at times but it will be comfortable.

Temperatures will rise steadily from Friday into the weekend. Highs Friday will be in the low 70s with lows that night nearing 50 degrees. These temperatures will be near average for this time of year.

Heading into Easter Weekend it will be warm, dry, and mostly sunny!

High pressure will remain in control of the region, helping to keep skies mostly sunny and temperatures warm. Highs by Sunday will be nearly ten degrees above average for this time of year!

If you are heading out early Easter Sunday no need to grab the rain gear. You will want sunglasses and a light jacket in the morning. By the afternoon a jacket will no longer be needed.

Early Week Storm Potential:

After multiple days of dry weather and a picture-perfect holiday weekend, the storm threat returns.

A storm system is forecast to track through the region early next week leading to the next chance of rain and storms. Latest model trends show a strong cold front passage late Tuesday afternoon through the night. The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted the area in its six-day severe weather outlook.

The Weather Authority will be monitoring the progression of this system closely as the track and timing will help to determine the severe threat. At this time, damaging wind gusts and heavy rain will be possible. We’ll keep updating the threats as we get closer.
