Sunday £1 bus fares to be introduced in Lancashire
Sunday bus fares costing £1 and cheaper tickets for young people are due to be introduced across Lancashire.
The £1 Sunday offer, set to launch on 26 May, will replace the current "buy Saturday, get Sunday free" deal, also known as the weekender ticket.
People aged between 16 and 21 will also be eligible for a third off adult single, return and day fares bought from the driver.
It is expected the scheme will start later this year.
Transport funding
A £1 evening fare was launched during the coronavirus pandemic in Lancashire.
Lancashire County Council’s cabinet recently approved plans, including £5.5m funding for the discounted fares for young people.
County councillor Rupert Swarbrick, cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said the cheaper tickets were "on top of further enhancements to bus services, which ultimately aim to make buses more frequent, more reliable and easier to use".
Last autumn, the government announced that Lancashire would receive £494m in transport funding from 2025 for seven years, following the cancellation of the HS2 northern leg.
