Summer at the Alvarado kicks off in downtown Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A seven-event summer series, hosted by Albuquerque government organizations, kicked off Wednesday in downtown. Several booths set up shop at Alvarado Transit Center, offering information on city resources to help residents enjoy their summer like free swimming lessons and pickleball games.

The event wasn’t just about the booths though, city officials want to showcase the transit center and the area. “We’re really interested in activating this Alvarado Transit Center. It’s the site of a really historic spot. I don’t know if everybody knows that. This was the location of the first train station in Albuquerque, and where the Alvarado Hotel used to be, and the Harvey house. We want to bring life to this historic space,” said Public Information Officer Madeline Srak, Albuquerque Transit Department.

The next event in the summer series is a street fair happening Saturday at the Alvarado Transit Center.
