Study shows types of crime people in Louisiana are most likely to get arrested for
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Drug abuse-related crimes are the crime people in Louisiana are most likely to get arrested for, according to a study.
The study was completed by the Omega Law Group by using data from the Federal Bureau of Investigations. This data shows what crimes people were getting arrested for in Louisiana between 2021 and 2022.
Drug abuse violations were ranked as the top crime with the most arrests with 38,332 recorded arrests. Drug abuse violations consist of the production, distribution and usage of a controlled drug, according to the study.
Simple assault is ranked second with 33,512 arrests, larceny and theft ranks third with 25,225 arrests and aggravated assault ranked fourth with 13,709.
“By analyzing arrest rates, researchers and policymakers can identify trends in criminal behavior, while also reflecting underlying social and economic factors that contribute to this, such as poverty, unemployment, education levels, and access to healthcare and social services,” said a spokesperson from the Omega Law Group.

More men were arrested between 2021 and 2022 than women, having over 141,000 arrests while women had just under 54,000 arrests in Louisiana. People aged 30-34 are the leading age of arrests in Louisiana with over 28,000 arrests and make up 16% of all arrests, according to the data.

Disorderly Conduct — 7,716 arrests
Vandalism — 6,523 arrests
Weapons: Carrying and possession — 6,487 arrests
Burglary — 6,446 arrests
Driving Under the Influence (DUI) — 5,648 arrests
Stolen Property: Buying, stealing, possessing — 5,104 arrests
