Study: These Colorado cities are some of the worst places to drive in the US

DENVER (KDVR) — If you hate hitting the road in Denver, you’re not alone. Based on a new study, the Mile High City is one of the worst places to drive in the county.

Forbes released a study looking into the worst places to drive, which included metrics such as driving experience, safety, cost of car ownership and car maintenance. Throughout the 47 cities included in the study, Denver ranked in the top.

Denver ranked No. 14 on the list mainly due to driving experience, which is defined through data of the average number of hours lost in traffic congestion per year, speed during rush hour traffic, amount of time required to travel six miles, speed used downtown, commute time and number of days with precipitation.

However, the city's safety was another contributing factor, which looked at the number of deadly car crashes and car thefts per year.

Denver ranked as one of the worst cities for car thefts, with more than 900 car thefts per 100,000 residents. Meanwhile, Denver totaled almost eight deaths from car crashes per 100,000 residents.

Denver wasn't the only city in Colorado that made the list. Colorado Springs also ranked among the worst cities to drive in.

That said, Colorado Springs ranked far lower than Denver at No. 43 out of the 47 cities on the list.

While two Colorado cities were on the list, it's nothing like driving in California where eight cities hit the list with Oakland, California in the top spot.
