Study: These are the best (and worst) cities to move to in Colorado

DENVER (KDVR) – The Mile High City is home to an uninterrupted view of the mountains and claims of 300 days of sunshine. However, based on a new study, Denver is actually one of the worst cities to move to in Colorado – and it’s not because of the elevation or the Colorado Rockies‘ record.

USA TODAY released a study looking into some of Colorado’s largest cities and ranking them as the best and worst cities to live in, based on several factors including health, safety, entertainment and more.

While some Colorado cities are known as the most popular cities in the nation, it doesn’t necessarily mean these are the best places to live if you’re looking to move this year.

The study places Grand Junction as the best city in the state to move to, referring to it as “Colorado’s best-kept secret” that’s surrounded by nature while being one of the most affordable cities for home buyers and renters. While the median income is low in the city, the study says the cost of living balances the income out.

Meanwhile, other well-known cities like Aurora and Denver didn’t do as well.

In fact, Denver ranked lower than almost every city on the list, with only Thornton, Brighton and Commerce City ranking lower due to the cost of living, walkability and number of restaurants and activities.

Denver and Aurora didn’t do much better than the Adams County cities because of the high crime rates and high homeowners insurance premiums.

While Denver is the city many people think of when they think “Colorado,” based on the study, it’s not the best city to live in the state.
