Students, teachers overcome by accidental pepper spray discharge at NYC public school

Eight students at a Queens grade school were hospitalized Thursday after they and several dozen others were exposed to pepper spray fumes, cops said.

Cops were told that a pepper spray canister, which was in a bag, exploded when a child accidentally sat on it.

Police were called to Public School 219 on Gravett Road near Main St. in Kew Gardens Hills at about 10:40 a.m. when they found 31 students and nine adults suffering from pepper spray exposure.

Eight students were taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Queens for observation.
