Former Strictly Come Dancing star Oti Mabuse has marked a big motherhood milestone in a touching update.

The dancer welcomed a baby with her husband Marius Iepure over Christmas, giving birth to her daughter prematurely that led to six weeks of incubation.

Taking to Instagram yesterday (May 9), Oti shared a series of pictures – including a cake with a 6 candle and herself and her baby – as she marked six months since her daughter arrived, praising her newborn's "strength and resilience".

"Today marks 6 months since our little miracle entered this world, defying the odds with her early arrival," she wrote. "Being a mom to a premature baby has been a journey filled with ups and downs, but oh, the beauty in every moment!"

Oti said she was "endlessly grateful for [her] daughter’s strength and resilience", adding: "She’s taught me more about love, courage, and gratitude than I ever thought possible.

"Here’s to celebrating milestones, big and small, and cherishing the precious gift of motherhood. So appreciative of everyone who’s joined us on this incredible journey #PreemieMom #MiracleBaby #gratitude."

Back in February, Oti revealed that she was diagnosed with sepsis after giving birth, recalling on the Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast: "I think we didn't hold her for about a week because she was still in an incubator with the wires, and with jaundice so she was under blue light. And she had infections because it turned out that I had sepsis.

"What happened was the bacteria around the womb which protects your body, when it breaks it attacks the baby. So she had infections that they didn't have time to diagnose, so they had to give her antibiotics and see if she was okay...

"The NHS, the doctors, the midwives, they were amazing... I was taken down in a wheelchair and I couldn't get up [and hold my baby]. That was traumatising and emotionally very, very exhausting."

Meanwhile, in March Oti spoke about the possibility of expanding her family, saying she would like as many children as she "can afford".

"What I have been through shocked me, but it made me even stronger," she told The Times. "You can imagine if I'm ambitious in my work, how ambitious I am as a mum."

Strictly Come Dancing will return later this year on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
