BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Derek Spence, a Texan and father of four by day, turns into the legendary George Strait by night.

It has been said that he acts so much like him that people need a double take. Though 21 years younger than George Strait, he’s gotten the comparison his entire life.

So much so, it affected when he was trying to start his country music career in Nashville.

“I tried to land a record deal and all that, but I couldn’t because I had several record deals turn me down because they said I looked too much like George Strait,” Derek Spence George Strait Tribute Artist said.

So, he made the most out of the comparison and brought his talent with him. His next stop? Bakersfield.

“I’ve had some of the best food in Bakersfield, California and it’s a lot like Texas there! You’ve got the cattle there, It’s very agriculturally based.” Spence plans on playing 30 Strait songs… straight,” Spence said.
