Stormy into Saturday, then sunny by Memorial Day

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Friday, Utah! We made it to the end of the workweek! As we move into the Memorial Day weekend, we’ll go on a little bit of a roller coaster when it comes to our weather.

After a calm start to the day, we’ll see increasing clouds and wet weather potential from the afternoon into tonight as our next storm moves in. In the meantime, this afternoon will bring daytime highs that come in close to our seasonal averages. Northern Utah will see 60s and 70s while southern Utah gets mainly 70s and 80s. If we see any showers during the daytime hours, they will favor central Utah.

By tonight, the chance of showers and thunderstorms will increase across the northern two-thirds of the state. We’ll hold onto that chance through the day on Saturday as a cold front swings through. Temperatures won’t ease down too much, however, most will see highs run about 3-5 degrees cooler tomorrow compared to what we see this afternoon. Outside of any wet weather and for those that stay dry, tomorrow will bring partly to mostly cloudy skies. Most will see rain, however, above 8,000 ft. in northern Utah, some snow accumulations will be possible. This includes the upper cottonwoods and the high Uintas.

High pressure will start to build in by Saturday night and that will set the table for some great weather for the latter half of the Memorial Day weekend. On Sunday, we’ll see mostly sunny skies with daytime highs that come in close to seasonal norm. By Monday, it will be sunny skies with highs that run a few degrees above normal! Along the Wasatch Front, we’ll see highs near 80 while St. George returns to the 90s. The weather will be great to be outside to remember and honor our fallen.

The warmup will continue Tuesday with highs that could be about 10 degrees above average! The above-average warmth will hold on through next week, but temperatures will gradually ease down for the second half of the week as mostly dry conditions likely prevail.

The bottom line? Our next storm moves in later today into Saturday before high pressure brings a quiet and warmer end to the Memorial Day Weekend.
