Storm Reports: Tornadoes touch down in south-central Kansas
WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A complicated forecast for today bears the possibility of significant severe weather, including the possibility of strong tornadoes, across much of Kansas. Several areas of possible severe storm focus are expected during the afternoon.
KSN’s team of meteorologists are both in the Weather Center and on the road in Storm Track 3 to give you the latest updates on when and where the weather will impact.
In Kay County, Oklahoma, several homes, buildings and power poles were damaged, and several miles of broken trees.
The Kansas Department of Transportation has closed down Highway 160 and Junction 75 because of water over the roadway in Elk County.
You will want to stay weather-aware. If you find yourself in the path of a tornado, remember the acronym “DUCK” to stay safe:
Down — Get down to the lowest level of your home, away from windows and as far in your home as you can get.
Under — Get under something sturdy.
Cover your head.
Keep in your shelter until the storm has passed.

The photo below comes courtesy of Daniel Cook on Interstate 70 near Chapman. The Kansas Highway Patrol said the driver changed lanes to voice a downed tree limb in the lane when the wind blew it over. The driver was a 34-year-old man from California who received minor injuries.
