Stolen Motorcycles Lead Georgia State Patrol On High-Speed Chase, Ends in Multiple Crashes

On February 3, 2024, a high-speed motorcycle chase along Interstate 75, starting from Bartow County and concluding in Gordon County, Georgia, resulted in two people being hospitalized and facing charges. The pursuit involved two stolen sports motorcycles and engaged multiple law enforcement agencies in a tense and dangerous chase that spanned several miles.

The chase began when Georgia State Patrol troopers noticed two black sports motorcycles, identified as a BMW 1000RR, traveling without visible tags near mile marker 289 in Bartow County at around 10:18 a.m. Attempts to conduct a traffic stop were futile as both motorcyclists sped away, initiating the northbound pursuit on I-75.

Characterized by reckless driving, the motorcyclists, one wearing a white helmet and the other a red helmet, were seen weaving through traffic at speeds reaching up to 140 mph. Efforts focused on the motorcycle driven by the individual in the white helmet, while the other rider kept a distance.

Despite law enforcement's attempts to end the chase using tactical maneuvers, the first rider continued to evade capture, leading to an escalation of the chase into Gordon County. Here, additional law enforcement personnel joined the effort, though attempts to encircle the motorcycle were unsuccessful.

The pursuit took a turn near mile marker 317, where the first motorcycle collided with a patrol car, lost control, and overturned, resulting in the rider being ejected and inadvertently struck by a Gordon County Deputy's vehicle. The rider was immediately transported to Hamilton Medical Center for treatment.

The second rider, after momentarily disengaging, resumed the chase, leading to another collision with a patrol car at mile marker 325. This collision led to the rider's ejection and arrest, with the individual also being taken to Hamilton Medical Center.

Both motorcycles were confirmed as stolen from Greenville, South Carolina, adding grand theft auto to the list of charges faced by the riders. The identities of the riders are withheld pending formal charges.

The incident caused notable traffic disruptions on I-75, prompting a response and investigation by the authorities. No other injuries were reported apart from the two riders involved in the chase.
