Stolen gun, fentanyl, cocaine found during traffic stop near Nashville airport: docs

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A 21-year-old man faces more than a dozen charges after a traffic stop near Nashville International Airport led to the discovery of drugs and guns over the weekend.

According to an arrest report, the incident took place on Saturday, April 13 around 1:50 p.m. after BNA officers were alerted to a black Honda Accord bearing a license plate that was reported stolen.

Officers found the vehicle at Hertz on Hangar Lane and approached the driver identified as 21-year-old Rontaz Daniels.

Court documents stated the officer reported the “odor of fresh marijuana” was coming from the vehicle upon approach.

Daniels was asked to exit the vehicle and was informed that the license plate was stolen, according to an arrest report.

After Daniels exited, an officer allegedly asked his female passenger to shut off the vehicle and stand in front of it.

As the passenger was following the officer’s request, Daniels reportedly attempted to walk pass the officer and get back into the vehicle.

According to an arrest report, Daniels was then told he was detained and officers attempted to place his hands behind his back. However, instead of complying, officers said he “actively resisted” and continued to try to get back into the vehicle.

Documents state that Daniels was “forcefully taken to the ground” and taken into custody.

After the scene was secured, officers said they searched the vehicle and found the following:

  • 4 grams of blue fentanyl powder

  • 82 fentanyl pills

  • 4 grams of cocaine

  • 12 Alprazolam pills (peach pills)

  • 26 grams of marijuana

  • Zip-lock bags, odor masking spray and a digital scale

Authorities determined that Daniels was intending to sell the drugs “due to the amount of drugs, different kind of drugs and possession of paraphernalia that is typically used to sell drugs.”

A search of the vehicle also led to the discovery of a .40 caliber Glock 22 with a fully automatic switch, which was reported stolen. According to arrest documents, a mini Draco was also found in the vehicle, but was not stolen.

Daniels was booked into Metro Jail on Saturday, April 13 and faces several drug, theft and weapon charges, including resisting arrest. He remains jailed on a $78,500 bond.
