Stockton food bank says higher demand and less donations ‘unsustainable’

(FOX40.COM) — As more and more families seek assistance from local food banks, the Stockton Emergency Food Bank has declared that it is facing a serious strain in providing much-needed meals.

In a news release on Tuesday, the food bank said that despite ongoing efforts to build back up its supplies and maintain its status as a reliable food source for families in need, it is becoming more and more difficult to do so.

“The current trend of increased demand paired with decreased donations is unsustainable. Without immediate action from our community, we risk failing those who rely on us.,” Emergency Food Bank CEO Dr. Leonard Hansen writes.

The Emergency Food Bank had estimated that it would serve around 300,000 families in 2024, but that goal may not be obtainable this year.

“While the generosity of our community has been unwavering in the past, the current circumstances demand heightened awareness and support, the food bank continues. “Every donation, whether monetary or in the form of non-perishable food items, makes a tangible difference in the lives of those struggling to put food on the table.”
