Still time: Salt Lake City hygiene drive in need of donations for Homeless Resource Center

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — There is still time to help the Salt Lake City community experiencing homelessness with donated hygienic items in the Homeless Resource Center’s Hygiene Resource Drive.

The drive, which started on Monday, March 18, goes through until Friday, March 29. People are encouraged to donate items to the resource center that will go toward creating hygiene kits for its community.

Donators are encouraged to bring items such as:

  • Toothbrushes

  • Toothpaste

  • Body wash

  • Shampoo

  • Conditioner

  • Washcloths

  • Deodorant

  • Wipes

  • Sunscreen

  • Chapstick

  • Floss

  • Menstrual hygiene products

  • New socks

  • New underwear

  • Nonperishable food items

Donations can be dropped off over the next few days at Dynapac (338 Hansen Ave) from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Maven STRONG (155 East 900 South) from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Donations can also be purchased online through the resource center’s Amazon wish list.

Can’t donate but still want to help out? Salt Lake City will be hosting a hygiene kit packing event on Tuesday, April 2. The event will be at the Sorensen Unity Center located at 1383 South 900 West from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

During the event, volunteers will put together donated items into individual kits to distribute to those in need.

According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, those experiencing homelessness have been on a steady decline across Utah, but the number is still high. On any given night, nearly 3,000 Utahns experience homelessness.

Many of those are considered to be “sheltered” and about 1,000 are people in families.
