Statesville teen arrested in connection to Monday murder of Newton man

TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Alexander County Sheriff deputies say they arrested an 18-year-old homicide suspect Tuesday afternoon.

Deputies say they caught Statesville resident Karla Breanna Freeland around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday. Freeland is charged with one count of felony murder and is in the Alexander County Detention Center with no bond. Freeland has a first appearance on April 1.

Freeland’s arrest is in connection to the death of 33-year-old Newton resident Pang Vueyee on March 25. Vueyee died in an early Monday incident at an Old Mountain Village Drive house. After a search, officers arrested 46-year-old Hiddenite resident Jason Henry Fidler for felony murder.

During processing, Freeland was found with narcotics and charged with misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance on jail premises. Freeland got a $10,000 secured bond on that charge.

The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Taylorsville Police Department, Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, Statesville Police Department, and Homeland Security Investigations for assisting in the arrest.
