One dead, driver runs from northeast Columbus crash

COLUMBUS (WCMH) – A man is dead after a fatal crash in northeast Columbus Monday morning.

According to Columbus police, the unidentified man was pronounced dead after a three-car collision on State Route 161 (Dublin Granville Road) at the Sharon Woods Boulevard intersection in the northeast Columbus neighborhood of Northgate.

A Toyota FJ Cruiser and a Volkswagen Jetta both entered the intersection of Dublin Granville Road and Sharon Woods Boulevard and crashed into each other, police said. The Toyota rolled over and crossed over into oncoming traffic, where it was hit by a Dodge Charger which was driving west on Dublin Granville Road.

The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the Dodge was taken to a local hospital in a stable condition.

Police said the driver of the Volkswagen ran from the scene.

Police said SR-161 was closed in both directions while authorities investigated the crash. That investigation is continuing.
