State Police still investigating Decatur murder one year later

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — Nearly one year after a Decatur man’s murder, Illinois State Police are still investigating the crime and are again asking the public for help in solving the case.

James Taylor, 51, was last seen alive on May 10, 2023, and was reported missing two days later. On May 19, he was found dead in a rural area near his home in Decatur. He had been shot.

State Police have asked twice for help in the case, in July and November of 2023. But the case remains unsolved.

Anyone who knows something about Taylor’s death is asked to submit their knowledge to either Decatur & Macon County Crime Stoppers at 217-423-8477 or an Illinois State Police tipline at 217-278-5004. All tipsters can remain anonymous.
