State confirms drug center's demise, future uncertain

May 7—JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — State officials confirm Allegiance Rehabilitation Center in Croyle Township has voluntarily closed its doors.

"Allegiance Rehabilitation Center notified the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs that they have voluntarily closed this facility citing internal struggles with remaining open," spokesman Stephany Dugan said in an email.

"The facility also notified (the department) that all clients have either been transferred to another facility to continue their treatment or were discharged with appropriate aftercare referrals. In addition, clinicians at Allegiance completed all clients' charts prior to closure."

A township supervisor and neighbors told The Tribune-Democrat last week the 4-year-old inpatient treatment center had abruptly closed, with employees saying they had been sent home at the end of their shifts and told not to return.

Allegiance was located in the former Forest Hills Junior High School, 1427 Frankstown Road.

In June 2019, neighbors attended an informational meeting to air concerns about safety and security of the then-proposed drug treatment facility.

The Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs did not provide the current owner's name, saying the phone number it for the company is the one listed on its now-defunct Facebook page. Numerous messages left at that number by The Tribune-Democrat have drawn to response.
