CANTON ‒ A ceremony Friday marked the solemn reminder of the dangers law enforcement officials face each day.

The Stark County Sheriff’s Office held its annual Peace Officer Memorial Ceremony at the jail in honor of National Police Memorial Week.

“This ceremony is a profound expression of our gratitude and respect for the officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice. It is an opportunity for us to come together as a community to honor these brave men and women and to show our support for their families,” Sheriff George T. Maier said in a statement about the day.

The ceremony pays tribute to the valor and sacrifices of the fallen officers from the Stark County Sheriff’s Office and other local law enforcement agencies. Each year, the community gathers to remember those who have laid down their lives in the line of duty, dedicating themselves to the safety and protection of Stark County.

Community members, families and representatives from various law enforcement agencies were invited to take part.
