Starbucks opens near Monument Circle, where previous location closed due to safety concerns

After a year and a half, Starbucks is back on Monument Circle — well, almost.

The Seattle-based coffee titan opened its newest downtown Indianapolis location Tuesday at 30 S. Meridian St., less than a five-minute walk from the former Starbucks Monument Circle coffee shop, which closed in October 2022, citing safety concerns.

IndyStar previously reported the Meridian Street location will feature an outdoor patio and other building renovations to be completed this year. The space is significantly larger than the spot on the Circle.

The storefront previously housed Patachou Inc.'s pizza restaurant, Napolese, which closed its downtown location in August 2021. In February, Near Northside-based Command Coffee opened a shop in Starbucks' former home at 55 N. Monument Circle.

Starbucks currently has four other storefronts in Mile Square: in the Hyatt Regency Indianapolis lobby at 1 S. Capitol Ave., inside Kroger at 227 W. Michigan St., at 430 Massachusetts Ave. and inside the Hampton Inn at 414 W. Vermont St. A fifth location in the Simon Tower at 225 W. Washington St. closed earlier this year.
