Mobile Police identify person who died in barber shop shooting, shooter may have acted in self-defense

UPDATE 5/18/24 11:50 AM: The following is a news release from MPD:

On Friday, May 17, 2024, at approximately 5:35 p.m., officers responded to the 2300 block of St. Stephens Road (Baggz on Da Fade) in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim inside of the business with a gunshot wound. The victim was then transported to a local hospital.

Upon further investigation, officers identified the subject who was still on scene. The subject may have acted in self defense when he shot the victim. This is an ongoing investigation.

The victim has been identified as Alfred Hector, 24, who later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

UPDATE (6:36 p.m.): The man who was shot on St. Stephens Road on Friday is dead, News 5 can confirm.

Police officials also confirmed a person has been detained in connection to the incident, but their identity and involvement remain unknown at this time.

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Mobile Police are investigating after a man was shot on St. Stephens Road Friday evening.
