St. Johns County is launching a Citizens Academy, called SJC 101, giving St. Augustinians the opportunity to learn how departments within the government operate. Participants also will be encouraged to use their leadership skills to serve on county advisory boards and/or participate in a myriad of available community roles.

The first 20 registrants will be invited to participate as a four-class pilot program that will become the inaugural class for the academy in 2025.

The class is being described as an element of the county’s plan: Charting Performance: A Framework for Open Governance and Efficiency by the Office of Public Affairs.

“We are excited to communicate and connect with the community through this new academy,” said Wayne Larson, the county’s director of public affairs.

The SJC 101 pilot program will be limited to 20 eligible applicants. Subsequent applicants will be placed on a waiting list for future SJC 101 academy dates.
