Springfield woman charged with DUI as coroner identifies victim of fatal crash

Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon has identified the Petersburg woman killed in a head-on collision on Illinois 97 in Menard County over the weekend.

Marjorie "Marj" Hinds, 60, died of multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the crash, according to the coroner's office.

A Springfield woman, Lori B. Moreno, 40, was charged with driving under the influence after her pickup truck collided Hinds' minivan.

According to Illinois State Police, Moreno was northbound on Illinois 97 just north of Lincoln's New Salem State Park when she crossed the centerline and struck Hinds' southbound minivan head on about 10 p.m.

Hinds was driving the minivan. An 80-year passenger with Hinds was treated for injuries as was Moreno.

Hinds was taken by ambulance to Springfield Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Moreno also was cited for improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and illegal transportation of alcohol.
