Creeks, rivers possibly exceed banks, then some snow

A Flood Watch is in effect until 2 p.m. Thursday for all of Western New York and until 8 a.m. Thursday for McKean and Potter Counties.

A slow-moving complex storm system will slowly drift eastward across the Great Lakes over the next couple days keeping things quite unsettled. Initially, the precipitation will be in the form of rain, but colder air draining in Thursday night and for much of Friday will produce mainly snow showers.

Showers and some heavy downpours will increase midday and early afternoon Wednesday ahead of a cold frontal passage. The rain lightens up later in the day. Mixed rain/snow showers tonight, but there should be a break in the precipitation later Wednesday night and early Thursday before more mixed rain/snow showers develop mainly north and south of Buffalo.

Things really improve toward the back half of the weekend.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Rain Showers, mixing with Wet Snow especially on the hills, Little or No Accumulation, Low: 31 well south, 36 lakeshores, Wind: E 5-15 mph

THURSDAY: On and Off Mixed Rain and Snow Showers, most of it north and south of Buffalo, High: 35-41, Wind: NE 8-16 mph, Low: 32

FRIDAY: Mostly Cloudy, Morning Snow Showers, Rain Mixes In across the lower terrain during the afternoon. Accumulation of less than an inch in the metro, 1-3″ with isolated 5″ on the highest hills, less in the valleys, High: 42, Low: 36

SATURDAY: Lingering Clouds, a few Scattered Rain Showers, some Snow still mixing in on the hills, High: 47, Low: 33

SUNDAY: Mostly Sunny, High: 54, Low: 34

MONDAY: Mix of High Clouds and Sun, High: 59, Low: 41

TUESDAY: Lots of Sunshine, High: 62, Low: 44
