Speed and alcohol believed to be factors in deadly Appleton Newberry Street crash

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – Appleton officers believe alcohol and speed to be factors in a deadly crash on Newberry Street Friday morning that left one person dead.

According to the Appleton Police Department, officers were sent to the intersection of East Newberry Street and South Weimar Street just after 2 a.m. on May 17 for reports of a single-vehicle crash.

Officers say that the only occupant of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene and have also indicated that alcohol and speed may be factors in the crash.

The section of Newberry was closed for multiple hours on Friday morning and it has since reopened.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing. The Appleton Police Department is asking anyone who witnessed or has information on this incident to contact Detective Rosetti or Detective Thao at 920-832-5500.
