Specialty sporting goods store in Oakland to close after 42 years

(KRON) — A longtime specialty sporting goods store in Oakland is closing after four decades. Transports is shutting its doors for good after opening 42 years ago, the business announced on its website.

Since 1982, the locally-owned store has served the East Bay running and swimming community. It sells primarily running and swimming apparel and footwear.

“After 42 years of serving the running and swimming community, TRANSPORTS will be closing its doors in the coming months,” a statement read on Transports’ website. “The East Bay has carried us through fires, earthquakes, recessions and a global pandemic and we can’t thank you enough for your loyalty throughout the years. We are so grateful for the opportunity to serve you all – we would not have survived without your support!”

The business has been 100% woman-owned since 2018, according to Transports’ website. Transports previously had a store open in Berkeley at 1559 Solano Ave.

It is unknown when Transports’ last day of business will be.
