Southeast Kansas hit with baseball-size hail

CANEY, Kan. — Very large hail impacted portions of southeast Kansas Monday afternoon (4/1).

Around 4:30 p.m., hail ranging in size from golf balls up to baseball and even tennis ball size fell on the town of Caney, located in Montgomery County, Kansas. Baseball-size hail has a diameter of 2-3/4 inches.

The hail stones caused damage to vehicles — causing many car windows to crack and even shatter. Hail damage was also visible on homes and businesses in Caney, where siding and roofs were hit.

The severe thunderstorm that produced the large hail in Caney, was part of a much larger storm system that prompted a tornado watch for portions of Kansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri.
